In this poem that she wrote as part of her English CBA, Daisy explores what having a successful life actually means.
Is My Life a Success
by Daisy Jenkinson
I crawled into my 1st year of life,
Learning my abc’s,
And enjoying the world of make believe.
I ran into my 10th year of life,
Making friends,
While my childhood came to an end.
I sprinted into my 20th year of life,
The timer is ringing,
My education is ending but it feels like it’s just beginning.
I marched into my 30th year of life,
I got the keys of my house,
Is this what I want? I’m having doubts.
I jogged into my 40th year of life,
As I trip over school bags left in the hall,
I can hear the kids starting a brawl.
I stumbled into my 50th year of life,
How did I get here?
How am I stuck in this career?
I wandered into my 60th year of life,
Having a safe home,
With the kids grown up, I have no one to help me with my phone.
I pottered into my 70th year of life,
Watching my grandkids as they begin their journey,
Whilst I head off to sign over a power of attorney.
I limped into my 80th year of life,
As I sit in my armchair looking as the memories flash before me,
Was my life a success?
